Week 1 | Decisions | Introduction

In Week 1 of our Decisions series, we begin by exploring one of the biggest questions people wrestle with in life: How do I know God’s will? Whether it’s relationships, career paths, finances, retirement, or major life transitions, all of us want to make decisions that lead to greater peace, fewer regrets, and a life that honors God. Using Ephesians 5:15–17 as the foundation, this message introduces the idea that the Bible does not leave us trapped in confusion or uncertainty about decision making. In fact, Scripture says we can actually understand what the Lord’s will is.
This message lays the theological groundwork for the entire series by unpacking three categories often associated with “God’s will”: God’s sovereign will, God’s revealed moral will, and the commonly taught idea of a hidden “specific personal will” for every life decision. Through biblical teaching, illustrations, and practical examples, we explore the difference between God’s sovereign control over all things and the moral commands He has clearly revealed in Scripture. The message challenges the popular belief that Christians are responsible for discovering a hidden blueprint for their lives—like finding “the dot”—through signs, fleeces, inner impressions, or feelings of peace.
Throughout the message, we wrestle honestly with the tension many believers feel when making difficult decisions. Why does God often seem silent about specific choices? What role do prayer, peace, impressions, and circumstances actually play? And what does Scripture consistently emphasize when it talks about “God’s will”? By examining passages from Proverbs, Romans, Ephesians, Thessalonians, and elsewhere, the message argues that the Bible’s primary focus is not on uncovering God’s hidden future plans, but on surrendering ourselves to what He has already clearly revealed in the present.
Ultimately, this opening message invites people out of fear, paralysis, and the “tyranny of uncertainty” and into a life of confident trust in God. Rather than chasing hidden answers or living in constant anxiety about missing God’s plan, followers of Jesus are called to walk in obedience to His revealed Word, trusting that God is sovereign enough to guide their lives without forcing them to decode every future decision. The message closes by pointing toward the next step in the series: if Scripture does not teach us to discover a hidden “dot,” then how do we actually navigate the gray areas of life?
