Week 2 | Decisions | Eliminating the Dot

In Week 2 of our Decisions series, we tackle one of the biggest assumptions many Christians carry about decision making: the idea that God has one hidden, specific plan for every detail of our lives—and that it is our responsibility to somehow discover it. Anchored in Ephesians 1:11–12 and Romans 12:1–2, this message explores the difference between God’s sovereign will, God’s revealed moral will, and the confusion that often surrounds the search for God’s “specific personal will.”

Through biblical teaching, practical examples, and theological reflection, we examine the common ways people try to “find the dot”—through signs, internal impressions, fleeces, feelings of peace, or subjective experiences—and ask whether Scripture actually teaches believers to live that way. While God certainly can give supernatural guidance when He chooses, this message argues that Scripture does not prescribe sign-seeking as the normal model for Christian decision making. Instead, the consistent emphasis of the Bible is surrendering ourselves to what God has already revealed clearly in His Word.

This message also walks through examples from Scripture—including Abraham, Moses, Jonah, Mary, Paul, Gideon, Balaam, and Job—to show the difference between descriptive moments of supernatural guidance and prescriptive commands for everyday Christian living. Rather than living trapped in fear, paralysis, or uncertainty about the future, followers of Jesus are invited into a better way: trusting God’s sovereignty while faithfully obeying His revealed moral will in the present.

Ultimately, this message reminds us that seeking God’s will is not primarily about uncovering hidden information about the future—it is about surrendering ourselves to what God has already said. As we submit our lives to Jesus, renew our minds through Scripture, and walk in obedience, we can move forward with confidence, trusting that God is fully capable of leading His children exactly where He wants them to be.
