Week 4 | James | Hearer or Doer

It is possible to know Scripture, study it, memorize it, and even teach it while resisting the change it is meant to produce. Familiarity can feel like faithfulness, but James 1:19-25 draws a sharp distinction between merely hearing God's Word and actually following Jesus. The invitation is to receive the Word humbly, allowing the message of Christ to move beneath the surface and direct the way we live.

God's Word carries the potential of a seed and the honesty of a mirror. A seed must be planted before it can grow and bear fruit; a mirror must be examined closely before it can reveal what needs attention. Rather than collecting information or checking a spiritual box, we are invited to feast on God's Word as food for the soul, letting it expose, heal, confront, and transform us into effectual doers instead of forgetful hearers.
