We naturally ask, “What’s the benefit?” We ask it about school, work, responsibilities, and even relationships. But is it appropriate to ask what difference following God makes in our lives? Psalm 103 answers with a resounding yes. David speaks directly to his own soul and commands it to praise the Lord by intentionally remembering who God is and what He has done. God forgives, heals, redeems, crowns us with love and compassion, and satisfies our lives with good things. Worship begins when we refuse to neglect the benefits of belonging to Him.
Those benefits reach into every part of our lives. God reclaims our identity, shows compassion toward our humanity, and allows a life of faithfulness to echo into future generations. Ultimately, however, these benefits are not merely items on a spiritual benefits package—they are fulfilled in Jesus. Christ forgives our sins, redeems us from the pit, understands our weakness, promises complete healing, and secures an eternal inheritance for His people. Psalm 103 invites us to speak truth to our own souls, remember the goodness of God, and fill our lives with praise.

2. God Reclaims Your Identity
- He forgives all your sins
- He heals what sin has broken
- He redeems your life from the pit
- He crowns you with love and compassion
- Our deepest identity is found in whose we are
3. God Has Compassion on Your Humanity
- God knows how we were formed
- He remembers that we are dust
- God’s holiness does not make Him impatient with human weakness
- Because God leaves room for humanity, we should extend compassion to ourselves and others
4. God Extends Your Legacy
- Human life is brief, but God’s love is everlasting
- A faithful life can influence children and grandchildren
- Spiritual legacy is a principle, not a guarantee
- What matters most is a home where Christ is loved and faith is genuinely lived
5. Every Benefit Is Fulfilled in Jesus
- Jesus forgives our sins
- Jesus redeems our lives
- Jesus understands our weaknesses
- Jesus promises complete and final healing
- The greatest danger is not merely forgetting a list of benefits, but forgetting the Person from whom every benefit comes
