Week 4 | Decisions | Choose with Wisdom

In the final message of our Decisions series, we explore one of the biggest questions followers of Jesus wrestle with: How do I make wise decisions in the gray areas of life? While Scripture clearly reveals God’s moral will for our lives, many of the decisions we face every day—career choices, relationships, finances, major purchases, parenting, and future plans—are not specifically spelled out in the Bible.

Using Ephesians 5:15–17 as our anchor passage, we discover that God’s desire is not that we live trapped in fear or uncertainty, constantly trying to decode hidden signs about the future. Instead, God calls us to understand His revealed will through His Word and to develop Godly wisdom—the skill of living life well. Wisdom is more than information or morality; it is the practical ability to apply biblical truth to real-life decisions with maturity, discernment, and trust in God.

This message unpacks the biblical difference between God’s revealed moral will and the freedom believers have to make wise decisions in areas where Scripture does not give direct commands. Through practical teaching, personal stories, and biblical principles from Proverbs, James, Ecclesiastes, Romans, and the teachings of Jesus, we learn that God is a good Father who desires to guide and grow His children—not control every small decision they make.

As a practical framework, this message walks through ten questions that can help followers of Jesus evaluate decisions through the lens of both God’s will and Godly wisdom:

  • Have I surrendered my life to Jesus?
  • Is this decision clearly unbiblical?
  • Does this decision contradict authority figures in my life?
  • Have I prayed for wisdom from God?
  • Have I sought wisdom from Godly people?
  • Will I regret this decision at the judgment seat of Christ?
  • Will this cause another person to stumble?
  • Am I breaking any previous commitments?
  • Given my past experiences, current circumstances, and future hopes, is this beneficial and wise?
  • What do I actually want?

Ultimately, this message is about freedom from the tyranny of uncertainty. God calls His people to obey where He has spoken, pursue wisdom where He has not, and trust His sovereign hand over every step of life.
